Studies have shown that pelvic floor muscle training before and after prostate cancer surgery can lead to faster alleviation of the discomfort caused by urinary leakage.
In order to study the usage of the Tät-m app, the research project Tät.nu has been gathering survey responses from users since 2018. Users were prompted to answer the survey when they downloaded the app, after one month and after three months. The survey responses were sent anonymously to a research database at Umeå University, and responding to the questions was voluntary. Data gathering has now been closed and an article has been published. Further analyses continue into how the app impacts the need for a medical appointment. We would like to extend a huge thank you to everybody who participated.
A scientific article has been published in British Journal Urology International Compass (2023, vol 4: pg. 114-23). The research question examined whether the app facilitates exercising for men scheduled to undergo surgery for prostate cancer. Of 388 men who were to be operated for prostate cancer and who had downloaded the app, 131 (33.7%) responded to a survey after three months.
When the app was downloaded, 4 out of 10 men stated that they could do contractions “correctly” and 2 out of 10 exercised every day. Of those who still used the app after three months, 9 out of 10 stated that they could do contractions “correctly” and 8 out of 10 made the exercises every day. 97% stated that the app made the training simpler. There was no control group in the study and it was not designed to assess whether exercising with the help of the app reduced discomfort from urinary leakage.
